The Cream Cheese Puff has been a menu favorite since the earliest days of Leeann Chin. When a crab delivery didn’t arrive for the restaurant’s Crab Rangoon, Leeann innovated, filling the wontons with cream cheese and adding a blend of savory ingredients, including garlic and other secret flavors, to create the unique taste we know today. Diners loved the crispy, golden puffs instantly, and over four decades later, they remain beloved and have influenced Chinese-American cuisine beyond the brand. Many other original recipes developed by Leeann Chin herself, including Lemon Chicken, Peking Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Vegetable Fried Rice, Oyster Wings, and Potstickers, are still on the menu today. While deeply rooted in Minnesota, the brand’s influence extends beyond the state, with 40 locations across the Twin Cities and select U.S. markets, including airports.
